Yvonne Jacquette's nighttime canvas epitomizes the work generated by artists involved in the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's World Views. This innovative program, established in 1997 with the support of the Port Authority, provided unrented, windowed office space in the World Trade Center twin towers for artists to use as a studio space. This unique artists' colony-on-high ceased to exist on September 11, 2001.

DescriptionThis is a nocturne, executed in an unusual palette of greens & yellows. "Mixed Heights" in this case refers to the different angles and perspectives in the view, done from the 24th floor of one World Trade Center building and the 38th floor of another. The change in location gave Jacquette the 2 different views of Cass Gilbert's West Street Building. At the upper left is the entrance to the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel with flames emanating from its top. The foreground is occupied by the octagonal roof of the Museum of Jewish Heritage, beyond which is a double depiction of a modern high-rise.
