This tailcoat was worn by Admiral William Rogers Taylor (1811-1889).
DescriptionDark blue wool Admiral's double-breasted tailcoat with double collar and lapels, each lapel has 5 buttonholes from shoulder to stomach beside a row of 5 buttons; closed sleeves (no cuffs) have 2 bands of gilt lacing around the wrists, the lower band is 2 1/4" wide, upper band is 5/8" wide, with 5-pointed metal star insignia above; 4 panels at the back of the bodice, with 2 buttons near the center at the waistline and a button on the bottom of each tail; all buttons cast with eagle clutching an anchor above 3 cannon balls surrounded with stars; bodice and tails lined with dark green silk, sleeves lined with white silk, horizontal slit pocket at the left breast.
