This dress coat was worn by a member of the Veteran Corps Artillery of New York.
DescriptionDark blue Veteran's Corps Artillery tailcoat, with 3 1/8" open stand-up collar embroidered in metal thread with shield-breasted eagle on each side at the throat, clutching branches in its talons, with "1780" on the left side, "1790" on the right side, a branch embroidered extending towards the shoulder; 10 buttons down the front, with horizontal rows of black lacing extending outwards from each button across the breast on both sides; open sleeve (no cuffs) with a vertical row of buttons from wrist to elbow; 4 panels at the back of the bodice, with 2 buttons near the center at the waistline, false pockets on each tail with 3 buttons on each false flap, a button on each tail near the bottom, shell and flame insignia at the tip of each tail; lined with white silk, bodice and sides lightly padded and quilted, vertical slit pocket near the center edge of each tail.
