DescriptionDress hat with dark blue wool crown with flat, circular top, dark blue ribbon band edged with gold metallic cloth tape, and black patent leather visor with oak leaf sprays embroidered in heavy gold metallic thread; embroidered insignia in the form of a shield-breasted eagle surmounted by a banner and thirteen stars enclosed in a circular border; chin strap of gold metallic cloth tape secured at either side by a button embossed with insignia similar to type embroidered on front of hat.
Markingsembroidered: on front: "E PLURIBUS / UNUM" (part of insignia) maker's label: inside top of crown: "S. N. MEYER / 1231 PA. AVE. N.W. / WASHINGTON, / D. C."
