This mourning bracelet belonged to Mary Ann Lamar Cobb (Mrs. Howell Cobb), commemorating the memory of her mother.
DescriptionBrown hair bracelet (mourning) with oval oculus clasp fastener with safety chain; the hair is worked in bobbin tulle and is double layered, joined at the outer edges with a row of twisted hair flanked by a row of braided hair; a small locket of hair is tied at the center and fanned out beneath the clasp's glass; the gold frame of the clasp is etched in rinceau design, as well as the end fittings; inscription on reverse.
MarkingsEngraved reverse of clasp: "1850, / M.A.L. Cobb / her Mother's / hair."
