DescriptionCircular red wax seal impression with three-masted ship above initials "CSW" at center and inscription, "C. S. WOODHULL, PUBLIC NOTARY, STATE OF NEW YORK," surrounding edge; wax affixed to metal disk and housed in circular wooden box with flat lid.
Markingsrelief: on wax surface: "CSW" and "C. S. WOODHULL NOTARY PUBLIC STATE OF NEW YORK" handwritten in ink: on scrap of paper found with object: "SEAL (impression) / OF CALEB S. WOODHULL / 1792-1866 AS MAYOR OF / NEW YORK CITY FROM 1849-51 / GIFT OF LESLIE A. DAVIS, 1952"
