This card case belonged to Sarah Louisa Abeel (1843-1899), the daughter of John Howard Abeel. She married Samuel K. Lyon November 13, 1867. The donor was their daughter (b. 1887). The MW & H mark has not been identified.
DescriptionSeamed silver card case in a leather case; rectangular body with rounded corners and scalloped sides; hinged lid with bezel; engraved foliate vertical geometric stripes on both sides of the body; banner reserve over foliate scrolls on the front center of the body engraved, "S L A" in script; river landscape with a boat and buildings on both shores engraved in a cartouche on the opposite side; maker's marks stamped on the bezel; rectangular red leather case with tooled scrolls in the corners; hinged on one side, hook and eye clasp on the other; interior lined with red velvet.Markingsengraved: on the front center: banner reserve over foliate scrolls, with "S L A" in script;
stamped: on the bezel: pseudo lion passant in a rectangle, pseudo queen's head in an oval, "MW/ &H" in a rectangle
