DescriptionBlack beaver (textile) chapeau with rigid crown; cock and fan edged with embroidered black binding and tied together with ribbon on either side; black silk rosette with superimposed loop of gold metallic cloth tape with button embossed with an eagle clutching an anchor below an arc of thirteen stars; full crest of red ostrich feathers; gold bullion fringe at each corner; in original brown cardboard box with maker's label on exterior.
Markingsprinted: on lining: "HORSTMANN BRO'S & CO / SOCIETY GOODS / PHILADELPHIA" printed paper label: affixed to exterior of box: "HORSTMANN BROS. & CO. / MILITARY AND REGALIA FURNISHERS / Fifth and Cherry Streets, Philadelphia"
