This chapeau was worn as part of the dress uniform of the Veteran Corps of the 7th Regiment, National Guard New York. Related uniform parts and accessories, including coat, trousers, and sword with scabbard, were also given by the donor.
DescriptionBlack beaver (textile) chapeau with rigid crown; cock and fan trimmed with black ostrich feathers and tied together with black ribbon on either side; loop of gold braid with red velvet-covered disk at center embroidered with superimposed "V," "C," and "7"; gilded metal button embossed with initials "NG" between branches of oak and laurel; gold bullion fringe at each corner; black leather sweatband and pink silk lining.Markingsembroidered: on cockade: "7VC" (superimposed)
