DescriptionSilver plate candle snuffer; scissor form with flat, shaped arms; one arm with a triangular, pointed end and an applied rectangular pan with rounded corners; short, opposite arm fitted with a vertically applied conforming blade; applied, foliate scroll decoration on the pointed end and two bands applied across the top of the pan; circular pivot with an applied, repoussé chased foliate scroll disk; oval grips joined to the arms with repoussé chased c-scrolls around a shell motif; three cast ball feet applied to the outsides of the grips and the pointed arm; maker's marks stamped on the snuffer blade.
MarkingsStamped on blade: group of pseudo german hallmarks "G" in roman letters in a circle besides a small cross over a triangle in a rectangle besides "Gil- / bert" in script in a rectangle besides the cross over triangle again; stamped on blade besides pseudo hallmarks: "P S" in roman letters in two conjoined ovals
