DescriptionThirty-two comb presentation fire helmet painted light yellow-green (originally white); oval metal (silver?) plaque on center back of brim with engraved inscription; painted leather frontpiece with fire engine and inscriptions "ENGINEER" and "A. C." in red and black on gold ground; gilded eagle frontpiece holder; textile half-lining.
Markingspainted: on frontpiece: "ENGINEER / A. C." engraved: on metal plaque affixed to back of brim: "Presented to / Alex Campbell / by the Members & Volunteers / of Lady Washington / Engine Co. No. 1 / May 2nd 1864" typewritten: on exhibition label found with object: "WHITE 32-CONE HELMET PRESENTED / TO / ALEXANDER CAMPBELL / BY THE MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS OF / LADY WASHINGTON ENGINE COMPANY No. 1 / OF MORRISANIA / MAY 2, 1864"
