This U.S. flag was flown by the 71st Regiment at the second battle of Bull Run. It was carried by a man who served as a substitute for John D. Brassington. The flag was drawn for by his heirs and won by his daughter Mary E. Applegate, March 16, 1911.
DescriptionWool machine-sewn U.S. flag with thirty-four white cotton stars applied to both sides of the canton (four rows of seven stars divided by a row of six stars); thirteen red and white stripes; linen hoist with metal grommets at each end.
