Sarah Morris Fish was the eldest daughter of Hamilton Fish. In 1860 she was married to Sidney Webster, a lawyer who had served as private secretary to President Franklin Pierce (1853-57); that same year her husband moved his law practice from Boston to New York. Mr. and Mrs. Webster were socially prominent in New York and Newport, R.I.
