Gift of Lady Parts Justice League

Lady Parts Justice League uses comedy to raise awareness on reproductive rights. Lizz Winstead, its founder and chief creative officer, is a comedian and media personality. She co-created Comedy Central’s Daily Show in 1996 and served as its head writer, and in 2003 co-founded Air America Radio. Believing that humor helps to reduce stigma around reproductive rights, Lady Parts Justice spends two summer months touring a comedy and music show that aims to bridge local clinics and audiences. For the 2017 Women’s March on New York, the organization created sunglasses printed with the phrase “A Woman’s Place Is in Your Face” over the lenses, riffing on adages like “a woman’s place is in the home” or “in the kitchen.” It has since used them in the March for Black Women, the 2018 Women’s Marches on New York and Los Angeles, and other events and protests. The concept began with printed signs designed by Julie Rosing, a member of the organization’s creative team. Winstead thought it would be humorous to place the bold text over the face, eventually arriving at the pinhole glasses manufactured by an online novelty company.
