Planned Parenthood was founded in 1916 by Margaret Sanger, Ethel Byrne, and Fania Mindell. The organization's goal has been to provide contraceptive advice to women to ensure all births are planned. In the 1960s and 1970s, a great deal of attention was placed on the growing global population, and therefore Planned Parenthood began to advocate decreasing the world's population with informed contraceptive choices.
