This 18-71 series truck door is one of a pair which were found at the Fresh Kills Landfill, in consulation with the Fire Department of New York and the men of Rescue 2. Located since 1985 at 1472 Bergen St. in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, this elite company arrived at the unfolding World Trade Center tragedy on the morning of September 11, 2001, little more than fifteen minutes after hearing the alarm. All seven firefighters aboard the truck died that day.
Description(a) Left side rear door removed from Rescue 2 truck. Safety glass window is shattered. In red and gold lettering: "Res", and in white letters "Keep Back".
