The subject was the son of John Albert and Martha Lyon (Knox) Zabriskie, and a descendent of Albert Zabriskie who came from Poland in 1662 to settle in New Amsterdam. He was associated with the Pillsbury Flour Mills Co. and served as a director of the Columbia Baking Co. He became a life member of the New-York Historical Society in 1920, was elected treasurer in 1929, and ten years later was chosen president, an office he held until 1947.
