Jane Eliza Phyfe was the daughter of John Phyfe and Jane (McNeish) Phyfe, and a cousin of the noted New York cabinetmaker Duncan Phyfe. She married John Thomas, a New York dry goods merchant, on March 15, 1843. Her portrait was a gift to the Society from her granddaughters.
