Emily Ellison was the youngest daughter of Colonel Thomas Ellison and Harriet (Rumsey) Ellison. She became the second wife of John L. Morton on September 8, 1830. The miniature is attached to the back cover of John L. Morton's sketchbook album of friends' drawings, hence the tentative identification of the subject. The donor is the subject's granddaughter.
