"The first American novelist," Charles Brockden Brown established his reputation as an author with the publication of "Wieland" in 1798. In the early 1800s he edited the "Literary Magazine and American Register," a political and literary monthly published in Philadelphia. This bronze medallion portrait was one of two cast by the sculptor. The original was made for a literary club in Philadelphia and the duplicate was presented by the sculptor to the donor.
