These artillery trousers are part of a uniform worn by L. B. Smith when he served in the New York National Guard. The Society also owns the other items which were part of this uniform.
DescriptionGray wool New York National Guard artillery dress trousers with 1 1/2" black stripe down the side of each leg; 6 button fly with fabric tab at the top extending to the left which fastens to a button inside, 6 buttons around the waistband, right side watch pocket beneath the waistband, horizontal slit pockets at the front hips which button closed; 2 straps at the back which buckle at the center on rectangular metal buckle with double-tongued chape, no rear pockets; all buttons plain metal with no markings; waistband and pockets lined with white twill-weave cotton.ClassificationsMILITARY TOOLS & EQUIPMENT: UNIFORM
