DescriptionDress hat with soft, cylindrical, dark blue wool felt crown with gray band around base, and black leather visor; embroidered insignia consisting of a shield over crossed anchors with an eagle with outstretched wings above; chin strap made of gold metallic cloth tape with leather backing, secured at either side by a gilded metal button embossed with an eagle perched on an anchor; brown leather sweatband and black silk lining.
Markingsmaker's label: stitched inside top of crown: "J. M. LITCHFIELD & CO / MILITARY, - NAVY, / AND SOCIETY GOODS / SAN FRANCISCO / CAL."
