This object was once part of the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), the avant-garde sculptor. From 1924 to 1934, Nadelman's collection was displayed in his Museum of Folk Arts, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The Historical Society purchased Nadelman's entire collection in 1937.
DescriptionHorizontal rectangular beadwork picture, with various colors of glass and metallic beads and paint on a white satin ground; this picture depicts two female figures on the right of a floating ground, offering flowers to a man in Turkish dress with a horse, a ship sailing in the background, tropical trees and various shrubbery all around, picture surrounded with a floral pattern, the heads and hands of the figures are painted.
