Marquis de Lafayette, hero of the American Revolution, toured the United States in 1824–25. The inscription "S & S" stands for Stebbins & Stebbins, proprietors of the Coventry Glass Works.
DescriptionOlive amber non-lead glass figured flask blown in two-part mold (McKearin GI-85) with hand-tooled flared lip; rectangular body with rounded shoulders, bust of Lafayette on obverse with inscriptions "LAFAYETTE" and "COVETRY C-T" [sic], and Liberty cap on pole in oval frame with semi-circle of stars above and inscription "S & S" below on reverse; oval base with mold seam and pontil mark.
