This medal is thought to be the first Peace medal executed in America and is said to have been presented by the "Friendly Association for Regaining and Preserving Peace with the Indians by Pacific Means." The dies for this medal were cut by Edward Duffield, at Philadelphia. The striking was done by Joseph Richardson, a member of the Association.
DescriptionBronze struck medal with obverse showing draped bust of King George II in armor facing left with legend: "GEORGIVS.II. DEI.GRATIA." Reverse depicts man seated beneath tree at right offering peace pipe to Native American seated before him, at left; between them a Council fire; the sun is above at left; legend: "LET US LOOK TO THE MOST HIGH WHO BLESSED OUR FATHERS WITH PEACE"; date in exergue: "J757."
