According to military expert William L. Brown, the cap probably dates from the 1820s or 1830s, while the shoulder cord is probably from the 1870s or later.
DescriptionBlack leather bell crown cap with metal eagle insignia at center front with plain brass shield attached above; hole for pompon holder pierced in edge of top adjacent to shield; braided white cord draped in front and back, with two tassels suspended at right; missing chin strap; white shoulder cord with two slides and tassels similar to those on hat cord.
