DescriptionBronze die-struck plaquette with rounded upper edge; obverse depicts uniformed bust of Marquis de Lafayette facing left, within ornate floral frame; neo-classical pedestal is inscribed: "MARIE.JOSEPH.PAVL/YVES.ROCHE.GILBERT.DVMOTIER/.MARQUIS de LAFAYETTE./MAJOR.GENERAL.IN.THE.SERVICE.OF./THE.UNITED.STATES.OF.AMERICA/AND.NOBLEST.PATRIOT.OF.THE/FRENCH.REBOLVTION." Reverse showing allegorical female figure of Liberty wearing Phrygian cap, with French and American flags and sword; eagle at her feet; landscape with sun and clouds bearing dates "1789" and "1776" in background; inscribed in exergue: "AD . PERPETVAM . REI/MEMORIAM/MCMXI." Medal inset into book-style clothbound presentation case with gold embossed logo with portrait of Pisanello at upper right corner of cover and number "5" at upper section of spine; woodblock-printed bookplate with initials "JMA" pasted inside front cover.
