This medal was commissioned by the American Numismatic Society, hence the appearance of the ANS logo on the obverse of the medal.
DescriptionSilver struck medal with obverse showing nude male on winged horse, flanked by figure of nude soldier in helmet, holding a sword, at left, and allegorical figure of Fame, with palm branch and laurel wreath; inscriptions: "JUSTICE", at left, with scales below, and "PEACE", at right, with the American Numismatic Society Logo above. Reverse depicts frontal view of the Versailles palace building surrounded by laurel wreath with sun above; inscription above: "PEACE OF VERSAILLES"; scrolling band beneath with date: "1919"; inscription in exergue: "THE AMERICAN NUMISMATIC SOCIETY." Medal is inset into cream-colored square cardboard box.
