This bust is based on an original of ca. 1830 by Robert Ball Hughes. The original bust was in the collection of New York City Hall until 1945 when a vandal destroyed it. A bronze copy, cast in Paris by Gruet about 1900 to 1906, is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
