Cora Urquhart, a native of New Orleans, became the first wife of James Brown Potter (1853-1922), a member of a distinguished New York family, in 1877. After gaining some recognition as an amateur actress in New York, Mrs. Potter made her professional debut in 1887 at the Haymarket Theatre in London. She is shown here in her role in 1895 as Charlotte Corday in the play of the same name.
