This sword belt is of the type worn by U.S. Army officers between 1855 and 1872.

DescriptionLeather, cotton, and brass sword belt; stitched, black leather-covered canvas sword belt with loop sewn near center of belt suspending scabbard sling with brass hook at end that fastens to scabbard sling, brass hook, and circular frog sewn on left side of belt, and with rectangular brass plate at right end that fastens to clip on left; plate has stamped eagle in center with shield on breast, three arrows in one talon, branch in other talon, and flanked by wreath at bottom, with rayed background, thirteen stars, and scroll inside inscription at top.
