This jacket is part of a uniform worn by Charles T. Miller during World War II. He served in the 162nd Signal Photo Company (later 3908 Signal Service Battalion), Photo Headquarters of the European Theater of Operations (London and Paris), U.S. Army.
DescriptionOlive drab wool serge single-breasted Signal Service short jacket; double collar with shallow lapels, "U.S." insignia on right corner of collar, torch with crossed semaphore Signal Service insignia on left corner; shoulder loops which button at the collar end; 5 buttons down the front, bottom has a fabric tab on the left which extends to the right and snaps closed, 2 breast pockets with flaps which button closed, diamond-shaped patch above right pocket with gold embroidered spread eagle against a circle; open sleeves with false cuffs which button closed with one button, left shoulder has insignia patch with blue star at the top and down-turned red lightning bolt, triple chevron patch beneath, patch at the wrist with a stack of 5 horizontal gold bars, right shoulder has triple chevron patch only, "OFFICIAL ARMY / PHOTOGRAPHER" patch at right wrist, above patch with crossed yellow branches; 2 panels at the back; coat and sleeves lined with olive drab twill-weave cotton, a horizontal slit pocket at each breast.
