This coat is part of a uniform worn by Major John H. Marsching when he served in the 2nd Division, A.E.F. U.S. Army, during World War I. The Society owns the other pieces to this uniform.

DescriptionOlive drab wool Army officer's single-breasted coat; double collar and shallow lapels, "U.S." insignia at the corners of the collar, crossed rifle infantry insignia at each corner of the lapels; shoulder loops with a button at the collar end, gold leaf at the shoulder end; 4 buttons down the front; a pocket at each breast and hip, with flaps that button closed, 3 color bars above left breast pocket; closed sleeves (no cuffs) with 1 band of yellow lacing around each wrist, patch on left shoulder; 2 panels at the back, skirt split below the waistline; all buttons cast with the Great Seal of the U.S.; inside lined with brown twill-weave silk.
