This soup ladle was given to the donor's mother, Marie Antoinette Baker Davis, on the occasion of her marriage to Fellows Davis, October 17, 1871.
DescriptionWrought silver ladle with long down-turned fiddle-end handle engraved, "MAB" in gothic script along obverse; squared shoulders and deep, horizontal elliptical bowl has rattail drop at reverse; maker's and assay marks stamped on the underside of the stem.
Markingsengraved: on the handle: "MAB" in gothic script stamped: on the underside of the stem: "CM" in roman letters in rectangular surround, king's bust in oval surround, Brittania in rectangular surround, crowned harp in rectangular surround, date/letter "G" in chamfered rectangular.
