This is a view from the roof of the New York Life Insurance Company Building at the corner of Leonard Street. In the distance, at the south end of City Hall Park, is the United States Post Office erected between 1869 and 1875 and demolished in 1939. This view was published by Magnus as one of his "100 Letter-head paintings of New York" and "48 Note Size Views" for sale by stationers and booksellers (copy in Print Room N-YHS). It was copied from a photograph.
