This sailor's shirt was worn by F. Maurice Newton, when he served in the U.S. Navy on the S.S. Prairie in 1898.
DescriptionNavy blue wool long-sleeved Naval uniform shirt with black silk scarf; V-neck with sailor's collar, open sleeves with false cuffs, 2 buttons at each wrist, buttons cast with an anchor at the center; front and back in 2 panels joined horizontally across the chest; shallow split at the bottom of the side seams with rounded corners; 3 bands of white lacing around outer edge of collar, 2 bands of white lacing around the wrists.
