This artillery officer's dress coat was worn by colonel George C. Haas (1888-1963), who fought in both World Wars. Stockbroker and civic leader, he lived in Mt. Kisco and kept an apartment on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The Society also owns other items which were worn by Haas.

DescriptionBlack wool artillery Colonel's single-breasted, 4-pocket dress coat, with double collar with "U.S." and crossed canons on the lapel at each side; 4 buttons down the front cast with seal of the U.S.; Colonel's shoulder straps with silver embroidered eagle against red ground; pockets close with button-fastened flaps, with 4 rows of color bars above left breast pocket; gilt and red lacing around the wrist of each closed sleeve; 2 panels at the back; back split at the center bottom; lined with black silk, horizontal slit pocket at left breast.
