These artillery Veteran Corps trousers are part of a uniform worn by Ernest Louis Walz (1836-1918). Walz served in the New York State militia during the Civil War. The Society also owns the other pieces of this uniform, including sword and scabbard.
DescriptionBlack wool dress trousers to New York National Guard Veteran Corps uniform, with gilt piping along the sides of each leg; 5 button fly (top button fastens on the interior), 6 ubttons around the waistband, horizontal slit pockets which button closed, right pocket has interior watch pocket; 2 straps beneath the waistband at the back which buckle at the center on rectangular metal buckle with double-tongued chape; all buttons black ceramic except pocket buttons, which are covered with black silk; waistband and pockets lined with white twill-weave silk.
