This child's sword was given to Mr. Graham Brush by his uncle, Brigadier-General Benjamin Morris Whitlock, who served on the staff of Roswell Pettibone Flower, governor of New York from 1892 to 1895.

DescriptionChild's sword with straight steel blade with round tip; blade is diamond-shaped in cross section and has etched designs and inscriptions on yellow enamel ground on obverse and reverse; gilded brass hilt with reeded ivory grip; counter-guard consisting of two-shelled pieces with openwork designs, a fixed piece on obverse side decorated with shield-breasted eagle, and a hinged piece on reverse side with a blank oval medallion surrounded by laurel leaf and oak leaf sprays; hinged piece may be lowered when a button underneath is depressed; quillon, which resembles a cornucopia, is cast in one piece with knuckle-bow, with section between them decorated with a female mask between two S-scrolls on obverse side; pommel shaped like a section of an inverted cone with a shield-breasted eagle in relief on obverse side and a blank shield on the reverse; steel scabbard with gilded brass mounts consisting of upper hand with circular eagle medallion and two carrying rings, middle band with one carrying ring, and molded drag with stylized petal design.
