These vases were part of the furnishings of Gen. John Maunsell's house at 14 Broadway at the end of the eighteenth century. They were left by his widow in 1815 to her niece, Mrs. James Beekman, and were used in Old Beekman Mansion, East River and 51st Street until 1823, when they were willed to her great-niece and namesake, the mother of the donor.
