This object was once part of the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), the avant-garde sculptor. From 1924 to 1934, Nadelman's collection was displayed in his Museum of Folk Arts, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The Historical Society purchased Nadelman's entire collection in 1937.
DescriptionDoll with composition shoulder head, brown hair wig with long curls attached to head, black pupilless glass eyes, molded and painted facial features including closed mouth and pink tinted cheeks; stuffed kid body with complete kid arm, cloth hand with separate fingers, and complete leg; multicolored patterned dress with short sleeves and tiered skirt, embellished with ruffles, over long cream-colored knickers with embroidered hem; brown leather booties with red trim.
