DescriptionCast silver and wood trowel with a turned, wooden handle with a molded silver tip and a tapered and bent stem with an ovoid joint; diamond-shaped blade with a long pointed tip and a wheel turned border; blade engraved, "Laying of the Corner Stone/ of the/ Monument to Christopher Columbus/ New York, September 14th, 1892" in script; underside of the blade engraved, "Presented to His Honor/ Mayor Hugh Grant/ by the/ Executive Committee" in script.
