DescriptionFour comb black painted leather fire helmet with tooled scroll border on edge of brim and intricate scroll frame surrounding maker's mark on back of brim; black painted leather frontpiece with firefighting tools painted at center and "NY EXEMPT ASSOCIATION" and "JR" in gold painted leather lettering; gold painted leather frontpiece holder; textile half-lining.
Markingsincised: on underside of brim: "CW" or "WC" handwritten (twice): on lining: "J. Rice" printed paper label (fragment): affixed inside top of crown: ". . . / . . . Broadway, New York" stamped: on back of brim: "ANDERSON & JONES / N.Y." painted: underside of brim: "2334"
