The City Hotel was erected in 1794 on the west side of Broadway between Thames and Cedar streets. The "New England House" at the left, on the southwest corner of Broadway and Thames Street, adjoined Trinity Churchyard at the extreme left. The hotel was demolished in 1849. This painting was copied from Jones and Newman's Pictorial Directory of New York (1848).
