DescriptionLacquered papier-mâché tray; flat, rectangular base with raised sides; central image shows a painted scene from the sea battle between the U.S. frigate "Chesapeake" and the British vessel, H.M.S. "Shannon" during the War of 1812, depicting the commencement of the action, with the two frigates exchanging gunfire at close range, off the coast of Boston, Massachusetts on June 1, 1813.
