MDCIX/THE AMERICAN/NUMISMATIC SOCIETY/HUDSON-FULTON/CELEBRATION COMM:"; image of sailing ship at lower center with inscription: "HALVE MAENE." Reverse depicts three seated allegorical female figures with naval attributes representing steam navigation; portrait in medallion suspended on ribbon overhead, flanked by two fluted columns and inscribed: "ROBERT FULTON/1765 1815"; distant seascape, at left, and Manhattan skyline, at right; inscription in exergue: "FIRST USE OF STEAM IN NAVIGATION/ON THE HUDSON RIVER/1807."
