According to the accession records, this dress hat was worn by the donor's husband, Colonel George C. Haas (1888-1963). Other uniform parts and accessories worn by Haas in World War I and World War II are also in the N-YHS Collection.
DescriptionDress hat with dark blue wool crown with flat, circular top, red ribbon band edged with gold metallic cloth tape, and black patent leather visor with oak sprays embroidered in heavy, gold metallic thread; gold embroidered insignia in the form of a shield-breasted eagle surmounted by a banner and thirteen stars enclosed in a circle; chin strap of gold metallic cloth tape secured at either side by a button embossed with insignia similar to type embroidered on front of hat.Markingsmaker's label: inside top of crown: "THE WARNOCK UNIFORM CO. / ESTABLISHED 1858 / TRADE MARK / 19& 21 WEST 31ST ST. / NEW-YORK"
