This dress coat was worn by a Brigadere General of the La Fayette Post No. 140, Grand Army of the Republic. The uniform was given to the donor, the 7th Regiment, New York National Guard, because some of the members of Post 140 had also been members of the 7th Regiment. The Society also owns the dress trousers to this uniform.
Markingscast: oon reverse, around outer edge of each button: "WATERBURY BUTTON CO."
DescriptionDark blue wool double-breasted Brigadere General's Civil War army dress coat with velvet collar and cuffs; 1" closed stand-up collar (1 hook and eye); shoulder straps have 1 star at the center, straps tie to the shoulders with string through 4 holes in the coat, 1 hole at each corner of the strap; 4 sets of double buttons down the chest; closed false cuffs with 3 buttons; all buttons cast with shield-breasted eagles; coat lined with dark green silk, sleeves lined with white and blue pin striped silk.
