DescriptionWrought and cast silver compote; deep, circular, bowl-shaped body on a high pedestal; bowl curves in below the applied, stamped, lyre rim; four cast, female masks with scallop shell headdresses applied to the rim; gadrooned band around the top of the vertically inscribed pedestal which tapers to a reeded ring above the foot; molded, stepped foot with engraved foliate decoration around the base of the pedestal and gadrooning around the base; front center of the body engraved, "H C C/ from/ W C W;" reverse engraved, "June 13th../ 1866" in gothic script; gilt interior; makers' marks on the base.
