This sundial was marked by Christopher Colles, a native of Ireland who emigrated to America in 1771 and was a skilled engineer and inventor.
DescriptionOctagonal copper sundial with numerous engraved inscriptions, including: "Noli confidere noctrem," "Equation/Table for/Regulating Clocks" and time markings; also inscribed in center: "Chr Colles/42 Pearl Strt." Eight circular piercings around exterior and rectangular piercing in upper center. Gnomon missing.
